City Walk with Alta Museum and Borealis

Alta’s small city center holds some hidden gems and stories; see the town’s highlights and hear stories of Alta’s past and present. You will travel by bus from the hotel to Alta Museum, with its extensive exhibit on the Sami people as well as the seasons in the Arctic. You will also be able to see 4000 year old rick carvings. Then it’s back to city center and time for more stories of Alta’s older and more recent past, from the slate industry of the 1800s to tragedy in the 2000s.
The walk will bring you to the new centerpiece of Alta: the Northern Lights Cathedral. Your guide will tell you all about the building, from the outside construction to the symbolism of the artwork inside. The conclusion of the tour will be a visit to BorealisAlta, a new interactive exhibit about the northern lights in the basement of the church. The exhibition is packed with information about the science and mythology of the aurora.
